LASERSHAPE TAKES THIRD TRUMPF TRULASER WITH BRIGHTLINE TECHNOLOGY

Lasershape, one of the country’s most successful CNC profiling companies, has ordered a new TRUMPF TruLaser 5030 fiber. The order, which was placed at the recent TRUMPF Open House in Luton, will become the Nottingham-based company’s seventh TRUMPF laser, its fifth TRUMPF fiber laser, and its third to feature 5kW BrightLine fiber technology and automated handling.
“Our previous two TRUMPF lasers with BrightLine fiber have proved very successful,” states Tim Leam, Director at Lasershape. “The cut quality is outstanding and they’ve made a significant contribution to the company’s sales performance over the past year. With this in mind, the order for the latest TruLaser 5030 fiber made perfect sense.”
With the introduction of BrightLine fiber, TRUMPF has transformed the belief that fiber machines are for thin material only. Thanks to this technology for the first time ever it is possible to achieve excellent edge quality when cutting thick stainless steel sheets up to 25 mm. With the addition of this unique option users can quickly change from highly productive thin to high quality thick sheet processing on just one machine.
“With the new 5030 fiber we want to focus on reliability of cut, reducing internal rejects as far as possible,” says Mr Leam. “The stable and consistent beam of BrightLine fiber gives us that, particularly on thick mild steel and stainless steel. If we program 20 parts we get 20, whereas on a conventional laser you might only get 18.”
The TruLaser 5030 fiber will also feature TRUMPF’s LiftMaster Compact automated handling unit when the machine is installed in June 2015.
“At Lasershape we are constantly targeting efficiency for the benefit of our customers, which is why we opted for LiftMaster Compact,” explains Mr Leam. “With our previous automated TRUMPF machines we’ve managed to increase our spark uptime from 50% to more like 80%, which is great for a subcontract operation like ours where we’ve got a multitude of different jobs to run in any one day.”
Mr Leam says he is also excited about using new features on the TruLaser 5030 fiber, such as the innovative Drop&Cut function, which helps repeat jobs become more cost effective and makes it extremely easy to use residual sheets for production. Using Drop&Cut, operators are presented with a live image of the machine interior on the control unit. Users can then click or tap to virtually drag the programmed contour on to the sheet and place it as desired before cutting begins.
